Fred William Scott Sr., 82, Kokomo, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 23, 1927 in Kokomo, the son of Fredrick and Ada (Cox) Scott. On January 16, 1966 he married Phyllis Joan Conwell, who survives.

Fred was employed at Chrysler Corp. for 28 years retiring in 1989. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944, the Marine Corps in 1949-1953 and the U.S. Air Force in 1954-1962. He served in WWII and the Korean War. He received a Medal of Honor from the Korean President in April 2003 and a Purple Heart in the spring of 2009. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in which he really enjoyed. He was also a member VFW Post 8035, UAW Local 682 and the Kokomo Eagles. He enjoyed playing euchre, pitching horseshoes and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Phyllis, are his children, Jean Ann Heaton and her husband Denny of Russiaville, Kelly Petrey and her husband Clyde of Kokomo, Tom Smith and his wife Teresa of New London, Fred W. Scott and his wife Kim of Center, Kevin Scott and his fiancé Chris of Peru, Brad Bugher of Kokomo; one daughter-in-law, Jackie Long of Kokomo; grandchildren, Jason Keller and his wife Michelle, Mike Keller and his wife Jamie, Kim Ford and her husband Steve, Matt Heaton, Andy Heaton and his wife Crystal, Cara Heaton, Jessica Jenkins and her husband Brian, Brock Smith and his wife Julie, Cristy McKee, Kristina Vazques and her husband Jason, Jennifer Baer, Damon Baer, Kasey Petrey, Matt Long, Brenton Long, Brandon Long, Lukas Scott, Sarah Goodman; 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, David Long, Kraig Scott and one daughter, Robin Elaine Scott.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Chaplin Earl Johannes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
