Miami Correctional Facility named its Employees of the Month for August. Those honored include Daniel Rich, Correctional Counselor, named Employee of the Month (non-custody); Sgt. Angela Johnson, named Supervisor of the Month (Custody or Non-custody); and Ofc. Kenneth Melanson, named Custody Officer of the Month.

Daniel Rich of Kokomo was hired as Cook 2 at MCF in March 2002. He promoted to Food Service Supervisor in April 2003. He transferred to the Warehouse Business Office as a stores clerk and then was promoted to Warehouse Foreman in April 2007. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree, he was promoted to Correctional Counselor in October 2008. According to his nomination, "He has kept a great attitude and has welcomed the challenge (of his job). He has been able to complete all tasks assigned to him and continues to set the standard for efficiency and excellence within the counselor position at MCF. He also goes above and beyond in resolving offender issues."

Officer Kenneth Melanson of Kokomo, was hired as an officer in January 2003. According to his nomination "He has shown great dedication to his job and this facility in his six years. He has proven to show good judgment and reacts to situations as they unfold, being able to think and react quickly. "

Sgt. Angela Johnson of Greentown was hired in April 2002 as an officer. She was promoted to Sergeant in October 2006. According to her nomination, "Johnson's professionalism and dedication to help her fellow staff and her commitment to protect others from self harm makes her a true candidate for the award."

Some of the criteria established for the recipients of the awards are that the employee sets a good example for others, participates in special projects, exercises good judgment; demonstrates enthusiasm for work; demonstrates outstanding achievement; is team-oriented; displays dependability; demonstrates perseverance; has a positive attitude; communicates well with others; and displays professionalism.
