INDIANAPOLIS (November 6, 2009) - Today, the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced that 5,000 Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) enrollment slots have been opened to childless adults. The program, created by Governor Mitch Daniels, began accepting applications in January 2008 and is currently serving over 46,000 Hoosiers. Federal regulations limit how many childless adults may be enrolled in the program. However, FSSA is now able to open these slots due to attrition.
"The Healthy Indiana Plan has been an unmitigated success from the start," said FSSA Secretary Anne Murphy. "We are happy to reopen the program to provide more Hoosiers with affordable health insurance."
HIP is for uninsured Hoosier adults between the ages of 19 and 64. HIP offers full health benefits including hospital services, mental health care, physician services, prescriptions, diagnostic exams and disease management. All preventative services are free, including smoking cessation costs. Participants pay between 2% and 5% of their gross family income.
Eligibility Requirements:
* Individuals must earn less than 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL). A single adult earning no more than $21,660 a year, or families of four earning approximately $44,000 likely meet the basic financial requirements.
* Individuals must not have access to employer sponsored health insurance coverage, whether or not it is utilized by the individual.
* Individuals must be uninsured for the previous six months.
