Fort Washington, PA (January 15, 2010) – In consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., is voluntarily recalling certain lots of OTC products in the Americas, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Fiji (FULL RECALLED PRODUCT LIST BELOW). The company is initiating this recall following an investigation of consumer reports of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor that, in a small number of cases, was associated with temporary and non-serious gastrointestinal events.These include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea. This precautionary action is voluntary and has been taken in consultation with the FDA.

STATEHOUSE-Indiana's Four Star School Awardees were announced for the 2008-2009 school year on Wednesday, said Rep. Jacque Clements (R-Frankfort). Seven of the 188 schools that were honored with the Four Star Award were within Rep. Clement's district.

INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mitch Daniels said the Kokomo segment of the U.S. 31 Corridor project has been accelerated and should open to traffic at the end of 2013, two years earlier than scheduled, and all but the southern portion of the U.S. 31 Corridor project will be completed by the end of 2014.

PERU - The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Peru Police Department, is investigating a police action shooting in which a Peru, IN, man was shot by a Peru police officer responding to a domestic dispute.

ELKHART, Ind. (Jan. 5, 2009) - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and local officials joined executives from electric car manufacturer THINK today to announce the company's decision to locate its North American production facility in Elkhart, creating more than 400 jobs by 2013.

INDIANAPOLIS (January 4, 2010) - The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has officially notified the U.S. Department of Labor that Indiana has resumed providing State Extended Benefits due to Congress renewing 100 percent federal funding of the program through February 28, 2010.

INDIANAPOLIS (December 30, 2009) - 2009 traffic fatalities in Indiana are on pace to be the lowest recorded since 1925. Preliminary statistics through December 28 show 680 highway fatalities, compared to 814 for the same period in 2008, according to Indiana State Police (ISP). That is a more than 16 percent reduction.

Governor Mitch Daniels said the state will reduce funding to K-12 schools by $297 million in calendar 2010 beginning with their January payment.

Indiana State Police at the Peru Post released statistics today for the month of November. Troopers issued 1,452 traffic citations and wrote 1,454 traffic warnings. Troopers also arrested 36 drunk drivers and made 80 criminal arrests.

INDIANAPOLIS - In response to communication from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced changes to its SecureID initiative that impacts those renewing driver's licenses or ID cards in 2010.

Transwheel Corporation, a manufacturer and distributor of replacement wheels for the automotive aftermarket, announced today that it will expand its operations here, creating up to 65 new jobs by 2011.

Governor Mitch Daniels issued this statement about House Ways and Means Committee passage of HJR1, which would permanently protect Hoosier taxpayers by placing property tax caps in the State Constitution. 

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  On December 7, 2009, the court martial of three Navy SEALs began over allegations surrounding their capture of terrorist mastermind Ahmed Hashim Abed, the man believed to be responsible for the infamous mutilations of four American contractors in Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004.  On Thursday, Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) sent a letter to Major General Charles Cleveland, Commander of Special Operations Command Central, asking for all charges against the SEALs to be dropped.  40 Members of Congress signed onto Rep. Burton's letter, which was also sent to President Obama, Defense Secretary Gates, and Admiral Mullin, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Rep. Burton issued the following statement after sending the letter Thursday:

A one vehicle crash has claimed the life of a Jefferson County, IN deputy sheriff. Last night at approximately 10:37 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff's dispatch received a 911 call reporting a sheriff's vehicle had been involved in a crash on Dugan Hollow Road near Madison, IN. The preliminary investigation revealed three Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a report of a domestic disturbance involving weapons on Dugan Hollow Road. Two of the deputies had just arrived at the scene and the third deputy was very near the scene when he met a vehicle traveling westbound on the very hilly and winding Dugan Hollow Road. The sheriff's vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and went down a very steep embankment and was airborne when the driver's side of the vehicle struck a tree. Despite the fact the deputy was wearing his seat belt, he suffered fatal head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by Alice Jackson, Jefferson County Coroner.

Des Moines, Iowa - Hon. Randall T. Shepard, Chief Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court, has been selected as the recipient of the Sixth Annual Dwight D. Opperman Award for Judicial Excellence.  Chief Justice Shepard was chosen by a three-member panel: Hon. Judith S. Kaye, former Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals; Justice Ronald Robie, California Court of Appeal-Third Appellate District; and Judge Frederic Rodgers, Gilpin Combined Courts, Colorado. The award will be presented in early 2010.
