Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac Retail Sales Up 3 Percent – Total Sales for These Brands Up 30 Percent

DETROIT – U.S. dealers for GM’s brands – Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac – reported retail sales of 102,420, up 3 percent compared to January 2009, and 145,098 total sales (up 30 percent).  These results were driven by the continued strong growth of new GM crossovers and passenger cars. For the month, GM dealers reported 146,825 total sales (including other brands), representing a total sales increase of 14 percent from the previous year.

Carroll County woman arrested on seven counts of theft

Cutler - A five month long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Tony Frawley resulted in the arrest of Patty S. Bentley, 53, Cutler, IN, on seven class D felony counts for theft Wednesday.

Growing concerns about distracted driving at rail crossings

Last year, nationwide, 2,400 vehicle-train crashes occurred at highway-rail grade crossings resulting in 1,200 deaths or injuries. In 2008, Indiana ranked third in the nation with 139 highway-rail grade crashes, resulting in 19 deaths and 45 injuries. Federal statistics show, inattentive drivers contribute to approximately three percent of all vehicle-train crashes and 20 percent of all highway-rail grade crossing collisions, involve motor vehicles running into trains already at the crossing.

Attorney General Zoeller issues report on federal healthcare bill

INDIANAPOLIS - If the Senate health care bill before Congress became law, Indiana would bear substantial costs. The bill would add roughly half a million more Hoosiers to the Medicaid rolls and create unintended consequences for patients, taxpayers and Indiana's medical-device industry, according to the Indiana Attorney General's report on the proposal.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints set to battle it out in Super Bowl XLIV this Sunday, Representatives Dan Burton (R-IN-05) and Anh "Joseph" Cao (R-LA-02) have agreed to the following wager: if the Colts win, Rep. Cao will ship five pounds of Louisiana Gulf shrimp to Indianapolis, and if the Saints win, Rep.
