Even in the most difficult of circumstances, there’s something to be thankful for, and this year Lindsay Colõn, owner of Posh Salon & Day Spa, hopes everyone remembers that.
Colõn’s remembering that. And as has become a Thanksgiving tradition for Posh Salon & Day Spa, she wanted to give back to the community that she loves. So she asked each of her employees to nominate someone for a free makeover. But when she heard the stories about two people, she decided Posh Salon & Day Spa would do not one but two makeovers this year.
Deserving duo
It’s easy to see why. Here’s the nomination Mandy Bradley submitted about Jaime Hicks:
“Jaime’s mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that has slowly paralyzed her. In her sophomore year of high school, Jaime dropped out of high school to stay home and take care of her mother while her father worked 12 hours a day at Delphi to pay all the medical bills.
“Jaime spent most of her adolescence helping her mother, who by this point was bed-ridden. Jaime eventually found time to get her GED and now attends Ivy Tech to put her nursing skills to use.
“Her whole life she has put her mother and family first and not done much for herself. She is 25 years old and still stays home six days a week to watch over her mother and help out around the house. She has an amazing heart and a positive attitude about life.”
And here’s the nomination Amanda Giles submitted about Dorothy Williams:
“I think she deserves a makeover because she is always doing for others, and I think it is time someone gave back to her. All of her life she has put everyone else before herself. Now it is time someone put her first. She recently joined a gym to improve her health and this would be the best gift anyone could give her.”
Using their talents
Once Colõn decided Williams and Hicks would get makeovers by the staff members who nominated them, Giles and Bradley went to work deciding what to do. Both now sport different hair color. And Williams received the most dramatic haircut, while Hicks just got an update to hers. But there was a big change in store for Hicks: permanent makeup.
Kourtney King is trained to apply permanent makeup, and it’s becoming a popular option for those who have frequent allergies and their eyes tear up easily, making their eyeliner run, older people who have trouble seeing to apply their eyeliner, and those with oily skin because the eyeliner tends to smear.
Great gift
“People are struggling, so I think that any little extra we can do to make people feel good about how they appear is great,” said Colõn.
When times get tough, one of the last things on someone’s list of priorities is to spend money on looking good. But the payoff you get mentally by feeling better about yourself is worth every penny. And, if you’re looking for a job, a makeover will help you look polished and professional.
Giving the gift of helping someone feel better about herself, to take a few hours to be pampered, is one of the best presents to buy this Christmas, Colõn said. So Posh Salon & Day Spa is offering a variety of holiday specials and gift cards so that people can make that happen for their loved ones.
